Fabric Giveaway!

As promised….

Self-Drafted Ocean Blue Palazzo Pants and FREE Giveaway!

Happy Hump Day!

Hello There!
Here are my first pair of self-drafted Palazzo pants! I love love the fabric color and the fabric. 
I used a pair of pants that fit well, omitted the pockets and used a side zipper.  The pants are still a bit big in the hip area for me, the next pair will be much better!  After I created the pants I found a pattern that would work McCalls 6515 lol but thats ok I need to learn to self-draft and its only through trial and error. The fabric is a cotton sateen with a slight bit of stretch to it that I obtained from Mood Fabrics! However I will be giving away 2 yards of this same fabric, Gutermann’s Thread, and a zipper.
I will post a photo of the Giveaway tomorrow along with the rules and stipulations!

DIY Maxi Skirt in Silk!

Hello again! What a lovely day in the downtown Silver Spring Area!

Although the temperature begins at a steady pace, I have found it can turn as quickly scared rabbit! You almost never know what to wear! Coming from Jersey it was much easier as the weather gradually changes with beautiful Spring flowers and Fall leaves! Taking a ride in North Jersey is simply beautiful.. While most have negative opinions about Jersey the landscape is gorgeous in transition weather times.. anyway! I digress! Today I decided to wear a silk twill maxi skirt that I self drafted with a permanently attached bow!

I found this piece for fabric at the Sewing Expo in March or April and I knew exactly how to create it.. easy peezy!
DIY:
Any maxi skirt you need at least two yard of fabric with a preferable width of 60 inches.  You can cut each half on either side of the fabric on the fold.
I thin added how wide I wanted my waist-band – 2″ and then the length is double your waist measurements so you can tie it as large as you like. I did interface it so it would be a bit stiffer.
I added an invisible zipper and did light gathers so this skirt is about 10 inches above my waist measurement .. if your waist is 24 add 10 then divide by 2 for the measurement of the panel on the fold.
Of course matching the stripes for the professional and polished look!

Bright and Sunny Inside with a Faux Wrap Dress Vogue 1027

URGH! Its so hard trying to get good (or decent) photography done right away. I am thinking of hiring someone but that is costly and two I have to go a great distance and BRING all my props.. No bueno! Anyhoo this is what I have today and this is why I have not blogged.  Followers and non-followers pay more attention when you are actually modeling the clothing.. Anyway here is my review of the pattern and fabric..
Pattern
Description: Vogue 1027 Misses’ Dress: Calf length dress has semi-fitted, pleated
and lapped bodice, bias skirt with inseam pockets and stitched hems.

Pattern
Sizing: 8 – 12 — I cut a 10 for the top and 12 for the bottom,
which were more than generous and fits well.

Did
it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done
sewing with it? Yes, just like the photo!

Were
the instructions easy to follow? Yes for the most part,
the belt is attached to the dress.  I
should have made the belt longer to so it could wrap twice. 

What
did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I would like to see dresses like this give an option for D cups :-9

Fabric Used:
It’s a Crystal Tie-Dye from Michael Levine Fabrics in LA 92% Polyester / 8% Spandex. This knit fabric has an ultra-soft
plush hand and has a crinkle knit texture on stretch polyester. It is perfect
for stylish tops, t-shirts, dresses, and skirts.

Pattern
alterations or any design changes you made: Mad the bodice
a bit longer, I could have made it a bit shorted and I should have added a bit
of width to the top.  Why? Because I need
to add a pin to it if I am wearing it work hence you see a bit of pulling in
the top.

Would
you sew it again? Would
you recommend it to others? Yes, making the alterations I mentioned.

Conclusion:
Great dress and I would sew this again!

Maxi Dress Love! McCalls 6700

Well I did create an outfit for Easter — dress beautiful brocade spring coat.. but I did not get the lining and buttons in time.. So I never finished the coat.. I hate UFPs (unfinished projects) — urgh but I will for sure get to it and maybe wear it for Mother’s day.. Any so I spent all of yesterday — yes on Easter finishing a self-drafted maxi skirt and this dress.. which I have to say I created in about two hours! It was a very easy sew.. love love it and the fabric feels great.. I can see many seasons  wearing this garment.. What you think yeah or nay??
 
Pattern Description: McCalls 6700 Pullover dress has fitted, mock
wrap bodice, shoulder ties, elasticized shoulders and raised (seamed) waist,
fitted, narrow hem, thread carriers and self belt.

Pattern Sizing:
8 – 16 — I cut a 10 for the top and 12 for the bottom which were more than
generous and fits well.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the
pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes just like the
photo!

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes for the most
part, the small tie was a wee bit confusing as to where to place it. I am not
sure I would put it on the top again? However, that does give some character to
the shoulder area..

What did you particularly like or dislike about
the pattern? Nothing it is a great maxi dress to sew! You can dress this up
or down.

Fabric Used: I am not quite sure as I obtained this from
the famous $2.97 table at G Street Fabrics. I know for sure it is a knit — I believe
it may have some lycra or spandex. It sews very well, stays put when you pin
it.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: Nope none
I love the length and all

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend
it to others? Yes I would and it is a good dress for
beginners.

Conclusion: Great dress and I would sew this again!

Neoprene in Radiant Orchid!

I saw this fabric on Fabric Mart Fabrics and had no clue what I was going to create! But then this simple pattern from the pattern fairy appeared McCalls 6886 and I knew I wanted to created it!
Pattern Review:
Pattern Description:
Close-fitting, pullover dresses have neckline variations, sleeve variations,
and stitched hems, view A.
Pattern Sizing: 6-14
(I cut a 10 for the top and 14 for the hips) in fact I could have cut a 12
because of the stretch of the fabric.
Did it look like the
photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes exactly, I added the flounce.
Were the instructions
easy to follow? Yes very easy no problems at all.
What did you particularly
like or dislike about the pattern? Nothing simple go to pattern cuts and
sews quickly.
Fabric Used: double-sided
neoprene in Radiant Orchard and Purple on the other side.
Pattern alterations
or any design changes you made: None, to the pattern just measure the
amount of flounce I wanted I believe it was 5 inches, double the width of the
bottom of the skirt.
Would you sew it
again? YES! Great for beginners – has set-in sleeve, side bust darts easy
hem.
Would you recommend
it to others? Yes, I certainly would its adorable!
Conclusion: I did
not find this pattern difficult at all; I can probably sew it without the
instructions next time.
