Curvy Girls are Chic is a fashion conscious blog for curvy women with a focus on the passion of DIY and sewing by Donna Whitaker. Since the age of 10, Donna would receive the extra fabric from her mom who was also a seamstress to design clothes for her dolls. Eventually, she would make the same garments for herself although not exactly perfect. As she learned to sew on her own, she eventually took home economics classes. Throughout grade school and high school, she continued with the passion until her early twenties.

In her early 20’s, she left the passion to pursue more family life, schooling, and information technology career only to return to the profession in her early-40’s. She aspires to develop more high-end garment creations from the fashion industry inspirations such as Tracy Ellis Ross, Gabriel Union, Kerry Washington, and Rachel Zoe.

Donna loves fashion with her favorite fashion icon being Coco Chanel and more modern designers Tracy Reece, Rachel Zoe, Tory Burch, and Kate Spade and seamstresses Erica Bunker and Nikki Brooks. Donna also loves natural beauty, exercise, and fitness. She is a self-proclaimed foodie with sushi and Ethiopian cuisine as her favorite meals. She also has a love for home design and unique household items.

Donna’s business venture; Curvy Girls are Chic provides introduction / beginner and intermediate sewing classes, basic Curvy Girl Ready-to-Wear garments, custom designed garments, and one-of-a-kind creations.

Donna also owns several Facebook groups including her largest group Bra Making Beginning through Intermediate and a local sewing group DC Maryland Virginia Sewing Collective.
