The last stop was Mood Fabrics – love love love love! This place is three floors of glorious fabrics.. When you first walk in there is a young lady to retrieve your packages and any bags you might have — you know “security.” Right by her station are zippers (invisible) for only .50 cents each! Whew what a steal! I guess the price of the zippers makes up for pricing in the store.
I was very focused on finding fabric gear for Fall so I focused on Fall colors and weights of fabric. In addition I was determined to find fabric for my first coat.
I did score six pieces of fabulous fabrics! One I can’t post and the first one will be in a seperate post as it does relate to my coat.
On this sample sheet you see four fabrics two are Italian knits, one denium, and a camaflauge. The first square is a denium stripe with stretch which the plan is a jumpsuit, the second square is the most glorious Italian knit that came in 72” wide! This score will be a top and a tank top, the third square is a camaflauge Italian knit that is very thin in nature. This fabric was so thin that my serger did not like locking in single layers 🙁 — So all my seams were serged together except one seam.. I will discuss this project tomorrow. The last square you see is the actual camaflauge fabric that I will use to create a longer pair of shorts.
I will be returning hopefully the week of August 24th to return to Pacific Trimmings and Mood Fabrics.. There is also a sewing conference in New Jersey that I will hopefully attend.
Next stop on the shopping frenzy included Chic Fabrics which is a few doors down from Fabrics for Less. This store is a bit bigger than Fabrics for Less and I don’t think I gave myself the full-range of looking around.. I was a bit excited to get to Mood Fabrics one street over. I purchased two beautiful knits from here for Fall dresses or perhaps two piece separates. The first one is a mixed orange knit jersey and the second knit is a black and blue print cotton spandex knit. He gave excellent prices at 60” in width.. They will make excellent separates.
I promised to post the different fabrics I was able to score in NYC.. The first stop was Fabrics for Less located in Midtown of NY.. Lots and lots of fabrics here.. The knits are in the center of the store, the wools are in the front towards the right and silks are on a top self.. I did not have a different goal in mind although I did see some other interesting knits.
On this sample you see four fabrics I choose — the first is a medium weight black and white knit, the second print is a beautiful multi-color silk, the third choice is the same as the black and white but in pink and white, and the fourth knit is a thinner weight. I already have plans for each piece of fabric.. Unfortunately two are for summer so they may not get sewn in the short future but they will be sewn.. lol
