Simplicity 2255 Plaid Top

Hi again Darlings!
I have been busy sewing but not posting as I should be 🙁 I know I always promise to do better — well I will do and not talk about it but be about it.
This is a cute plaid top that I created from 100% cotton fabric I obtained at Fabricmart 100% cotton and it was a very easy sew! From lay-out, to cutting, to sewing probably took about two hours.
This top is Simplicity 2255 I plan on wearing it with a pair of drawstring jeans I created from New Look 6351.

I actually made a bowtie from the same fabric

Burda 6765 and Burda Style #131 Tailored Pants

Happy Wednesday Darlings! Yes its me again can you believe it twice in one week whoo hoo for me!
I made this two piece crop top and pants for a birthday event I went to in Baltimore.  The event was for my sister’s pastor of The Greater Hope Worship Center. The party was held at the Baltimore Rowing Club this place is adorable close to the water great view and the weather was fabulous!
We had a great time and it was so good connecting back with my family I really missed!
This outfit is two Burda Patterns: Burda 6765 and Burda Style Tailoring Pants.. What are the differences.. Burda Patterns sells retail paper patterns and Burda Style does strictly .pdf patterns.  Since I am one of their Top 50 Bloggers I try to use their patterns a lot more often.. plus they have great modern style.. the patterns are clean, classy, modern.. only downfall you have to print and tape it all together GRRRRRRRR… But the results are great.
Burda 6765 is a set of adorable tops that comes with a cap sleeve and long-sleeve with a V-neck.. You can definitely interchange the pieces but I liked the short cropped one this time. The only thing I found odd about this pattern is its cut wayyyyyy sha-medium (yes a new word when its in between a small and a medium and just does not fit urgh!
The first one I cut did “fit” but it really fit and it was not appropriate for this event plus my tummy ain’t set up right LOL The first one was cut in a size 10 and the second one I went way up to a 14.  The sleeves as you can see are still a bit tight which tells me that this is cut small. My arms are small and most sleeves are big and roomy this not so much but it wasn’t uncomfortable.  It feel to a nice length and is not too revealing.
The fabric came from Fabricmart on one of their cotton sales.. its cute fabric with a slight stretch and Swiss dots..
The pants came from the BurdaStyle.com Trousers 131 – very cute tailored pants that goes from size 17 to 21 which is meant for juniors.. Well Juniors aren’t working with the curves so I had to do my own thing with it. I always have to alter the crotch area and the rear area.. and most often the hips.. The length is fine, although I generally add 2 to 3 inches because I like my pants long as they elongate my legs vs. cut me off with too short..
There is no leeway with this if the pants are short they have to be capris, shorts, or long.. I have tried this a few times and although I’m 5’4″ I have a short waist and long legs.. certain lengths just don’t work.
This fabric though oh my this fabric! I got this beautiful Loose-Woven Black Cotton Jacquard I actually picked this up last year on one of Mood Fabrics fabric sales and 1/2 this price.. I got 5 yards and it really is nice!

Blogging Works IFB and CAFFBC — Simplicity 1373

Hello darlings!
Its been a great summer or parts of it LOL it has rained a lot here in the DC area *side eye* and really a pause for being of fashion great! However the sun has come out and with a vengeance! Average temperature 84 degress.. whoot woo!
More about my outfit below
Even the day of this blogging event it rained, drizzled, thunder storms.. urgh! While that COULD  be romantic IF there were one you were sharing it with but .. I digress..
I attended my first blogging happy hour hosted by District Dress-up and Reddz Trading which has a new location in Georgetown.
The event was held on June 17th and it had a lot to offer including one of the local hair shops doing hair braiding.
As you can see she braid part of my hair right down the middle in a partial braid.

Two of the assistants for the night they were impressed with my Juliette Jake clutch and wanted to know if I would like to sell it LOL no I am actually seeking a Red one..

The top of the clutch actually wraps all the way around the clutch I love it!

Some of the high end items you will find here at Reddz Trading…

This is my outfit the day of.. blasphemy so ashamed back fat that has to go!

The front is fine LOL .. this is Simplicity 1373 and a self-drafted Pencil Skirt.  For the top I actually did the spread method and made the peplum just a little more flowy..

The fabric was from my stash, I purchased this fabric from Mood Fabrics it was the last piece of Oscar De La Renta cotton on the bolt it sewed great!

Top is Simplicity 1373 – Self Drafted Skirt

I thought it looked cute with my BCBG shoes found here.

2015 Universal Soul Circus #BestCircusEver #UniverSoulCircus

I was fortunate enough to get invited to the Universal Soul Circus on July 8.. it was a fabulous show and quite surprising. I had not been to the circus in years and I was pleasantly surprised.

Here are a few photos from the evening..

This was the opening act.. it was amazing seeing these guys on stilts..
Sorry the photos aren’t too clear but the lightening they used for some of the acts seem to distort the photo taking..
The ladies did some kind of balancing act.. their core is amazingly strong!

OMG the Elephants were so beautiful!

look at them stilling on those stools! Their little leg bands were too cute!

These guys as well were doing some acrobats just amazing!

There was a lot more to the show but the service was bad in there and it drained the phone battery quickly!
The show is here one more day in the DMV and there is a chance to get tickets.. I highly encourage you to attend!
Bye for now *mauh*

First Watson Bra Creation

Facebook keeps reminding me I have not posted in a while .. so here goes..
Generally I take a group of photos of certain projects I am working on. This Watson Bra is one of them. I have followed Amy for quite sometime intrigued by her self-taught creations of bra making. Her posts are amazing and I am not sure how she finds the time.
We (her followers) have asked her for the longest while when she would grace us with a bra creation and she did in January.  I obtained my pattern and began sewing it in February.
Its quite a quite sew and her directions are a bit through although I missed the part on how much plush strap elastic to measure so I had to guess. Unfortunately it was a bit too much.  Anyway below you see the various pieces I have noted.
I choose to create the long line version.. its something about long-line bras to me that creates a beautiful silhouette and slims your upper body. They are also quite comfortable.
Pattern Layout of the Cups; the pattern provides the sizing as well as some other measurements.
This is the bridge; the supporting portion of a bra

This is the powernet band; this supports your breasts and attaches in the back. The larger the breasts the stronger the powernet should be.

Sewing the cups together

Cup Topstitching
Elastic keeps the cups tight as well as provide decoration

Where the cups are attached to the bridge. Very simple zig-zag sewing

Completed Set! panties and bra (the pattern includes panties as well — most patterns do not include that so its a real plus)! The left looks a little wavy but I think I just pulled it too tight when I was sewing.
Conclusion:
Over all this is a great bra pattern especially since a panty pattern comes with it.  I found some pros and cons with this..
Pros: Its a pdf pattern that really I do not remember taping anything together, my size is all on separate sheets (winning). Its a multi-size pattern and it’s an easy sew with clear directions and the price is right for two patterns!
Cons: Although it goes to size H, I do not find it very supportive for myself. While I am only a D cup I like the true support of an underwire. Its a good bra to have when around the house etc. But I am not sure I could wear with most of my garments as I do like lift with my bras.
The fabric came from Needles and Nook – Ann St. Clair who is the owner and you would be best calling her about kits. This it was a mere $20 and it included everything you needed except plush elastic.  That’s an excellent price for a bra kit, I still have fabric left over to make another.
Unfortunately this came out way to big for me! I am not sure if it were the fabric or my misguided measuring or what the issue. I followed Amy’s directions for measuring but it still came out big 🙁 I decided to sew my usual size and that came out close to perfect! Will I sew again — yes I already have I will post that at a later date 🙂
